Why Local Authors Choose a Craft-Led Studio

Large publishing houses move fast. Freelance editors work alone. We sit in between — a small, permanent team that treats your manuscript as a living project, not a queue ticket. Our studio in North Ahmed means you can walk in, sit down, and talk through your chapter structure over a cup of tea.

We believe the best books emerge from sustained collaboration, not transactional exchanges. That's why every engagement begins with a reading session — we read your draft first, then we talk. No templates. No generic feedback forms.

"The difference was immediate. After one meeting at their studio, I understood what my book actually needed." — Declan Forde, Limerick, 2024

Your Manuscript's Journey Through Our Studio

Stage What Happens Your Role Typical Duration Outcome
Initial Reading We read your full manuscript or sample chapters without annotation. Pure immersion. Submit your draft in any format — Word, PDF, Scrivener, or printed pages. 3–5 working days Honest assessment letter
Structural Consultation In-person or video meeting to discuss narrative arc, pacing, chapter structure, and voice. Attend with questions. Bring your vision for the finished book. 1–2 hours Structural roadmap document
Developmental Editing Deep editing focused on content, argument, story, and reader experience. Not line-level yet. Review tracked changes. Accept, reject, or discuss each suggestion. 2–6 weeks Revised manuscript
Line & Copy Editing Sentence-level refinement: clarity, grammar, consistency, house style, and fact-checking. Final review of all changes before typesetting. 1–3 weeks Clean, polished text
Design & Typesetting Interior layout, font selection, chapter headings, running headers, and print-ready formatting. Approve proof pages. Request adjustments to layout preferences. 1–2 weeks Print-ready PDF & digital files
Cover & Production Cover design briefing, ISBN assignment guidance, and print/distribution setup. Provide cover preferences. Approve final cover artwork. 1–2 weeks Publication-ready package

Not every project follows all six stages. Some authors need only editing; others need the full journey. We adapt.

What We Do — A Capability Map

Manuscript Assessment

A thorough reading and written report covering structure, voice, market positioning, and developmental priorities. Ideal before committing to a full edit.

Developmental Editing

Substantive editing that reshapes content for clarity and impact. We work on argument, narrative, pacing, and chapter organisation.

Copy Editing & Proofreading

Precision work at the sentence level — grammar, spelling, punctuation, consistency, and adherence to your chosen style guide.

Book Interior Design

Professional typesetting using InDesign. We handle trim sizes, margins, font pairing, chapter openers, and export for print and digital.

Cover Design Guidance

We brief and coordinate with cover designers, or provide direction if you're working with your own artist. Genre-aware, market-tested advice.

Publishing Pathway Support

Whether you're self-publishing, approaching agents, or working with a small press, we help you prepare the right submission package or production files.

"I came to Reliable Book Forge with 90,000 words of tangled memoir. After the structural consultation, I could finally see the book inside the mess. The editing process was rigorous but never harsh. My book launched in March and has already gone to a second print run."
— Aoife Brennan, Ennis, Co. Clare · Memoir, 2024

Every Book Deserves a Forge, Not a Factory

We don't batch-process manuscripts. Each project gets a dedicated editor, a clear timeline, and direct communication — no account managers, no ticket systems. Just you and the person shaping your words.
